 His name has come bubbling up from the depths: Merkator, a cartographer who lost his mind to his own ravenous hunger for knowledge. Meet the Supervillain of the year (or perhaps the century) in our new trailer and get a taste of the strength of his obsession...
 At this time, his origins are still burried at the bottom of some seabed. However, it seems clear that Merkator was part of the Foggernauts. He possesses a rare intelligence, so it's possible that he played an important role in this ancient population. One might assume that he refused to leave with them when they abandoned Suffokia in order to focus on his research...
The meaning of his nickname (Lord of the Abyss) should be clear as spring water: he's obsessed with mapping the seabed with pinpoint accuracy, down to the tiniest grain of sand. He might not seem like the bellicose type at first, but woe betide anyone who dares disturb his research (which happens all the time, actually).
To the best of anyone's knowledge, Merkator is very old (several centuries old), but thanks to his technomagic armor, he has retained his vigor. Mechanical creatures maintain and protect his domain, and he has also retained the services of a band of renegade Foggers known as the Merkaptans. His monomania has been extremely profitable in one specific way; over the years he has amassed a small fortune by rediscovering lost treasures in the holds of sunken ships.
